
As part of the 30-day GAMSAT Challenge students are encouraged to understand the most common theories in ethics, politics, philosophy and psychology, among other prominent topics, that could prove useful for section 2.
A great and convenient way to broaden your knowledge on such theory is by listening to Podcasts. They are entertaining and feel less like work – so are a great option to supplement GAMSAT study. We have compiled a list of free podcasts that have been recommended by students for GAMSAT preparation. They include:
#1. StarTalk
StarTalk is a podcast on space, science, and popular culture hosted by astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson, with various comic and celebrity co-hosts and frequent guests from the worlds of science and entertainment.
#2. Waking up with Sam Harris
Join neuroscientist, philosopher, and best-selling author Sam Harris as he explores important and controversial questions about the human mind, society, and current events.
#3. The Infinite Monkey Cage
The Infinite Monkey Cage is a BBC Radio 4 comedy and popular science series. Hosted by physicist Brian Cox and comedian Robin Ince, The Independent described it as a “witty and irreverent look at the world according to science”.
#4. Philosophy Bites
Philosophy Bites is a podcast series featuring philosophers being interviewed for 15–20 minutes on a specific topic.
#5. Intelligence Squared
Intelligence Squared podcast stages live debates and discussions around the world. Stay informed on the big issues of the day by listening to popular debates such as ‘Break Up the Tech Giants’ and ‘If You Believe You Are a Citizen of the World, You Are a Citizen of Nowhere’.
#6. Very Bad Wizards
Very Bad Wizards is a podcast featuring a philosopher (Tamler Sommers) and a psychologist (David Pizarro), who share a love for ethics, pop culture, and cognitive science, and who have a marked inability to distinguish sacred from profane. Each podcast includes discussions of moral philosophy, recent work on moral psychology and neuroscience, and the overlap between the two.

Join Rob Reid in a series of conversations with thinkers, founders, and scientists. Topics have included cryptocurrency, consciousness, augmented reality, extreme longevity, terrorism, quantum computing, drones, and Fermi’s Paradox.

For anyone interested in an educational podcast about philosophy where you don’t need to be a graduate-level philosopher to understand it.
